Pre-Departure Information
Once you are accepted into the Semester In Spain program, there will be lots of things for you to do! Our office in the U.S. will take you through the process so that you will be prepared for your trip to Spain. We encourage you or your parents to call us any time you have a question or concern. We will be happy to help! Your acceptance package will typically include the SIS Handbook, the first newsletter and a few forms for you to complete and return. We will send additional newsletters and forms about every six weeks until the departure date. Click here to view the Student Handbook/ Guidebook After you have been accepted into the program, we will ask you to send us a non-refundable $100 deposit to hold your place in the program. This is due in our office approximately one month after acceptance. Make checks payable to: SEMESTER IN SPAIN. The forms we will provide for you to compete are: Address Questionnaire Housing Request/Miscellaneous Information Form Course Request/Course History Form Travel Information Form Risk/Release Form Transcript Request Form We will also ask you to provide: 2 copies of your passport an extra passport photo
PASSPORTS & VISAS: We suggest that you start with applying for a passport, if you don't already have one. You will need to have a passport in hand approximately 3 months before you depart for your trip to Europe. Currently, it can take as long as 8 weeks to receive a passport, so apply right away. You can find all the information you need to apply at the US State Department website - http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/get_840.html. If you have a passport, be sure to check that it will not expire before you return from Spain. It must be valid for six months beyond your attendance period. If you will be attending the Fall or Spring semesters, you will also need a student visa issued by the Spanish Consulate. We will help you through the process of applying for the visa. It can take as long as 6 weeks to receive your visa, so it is very important to have your passport available at least 3 months prior to your departure for Seville since the passport is needed for the student visa application. SUMMER term students: A visa is not required for the summer terms unless you are not a U.S. or EU citizen. |
